Now is your chance to take part in Victoria's biggest marine citizen science project with this special snorkel activity!

This year, the Victorian National Parks Association is encouraging people to give our Great Victorian Fish Count a try for the first time and experience unique marine life in Port Phillip Bay. With our partners Bayplay we are hosting a special activity at Portsea Pier.

Every year in November and December, hundreds of divers and snorkelers hit the water with a special underwater slate with 35 important fish species and waterproof pencil to record fish on the Great Victorian Fish Count. This valuable data then contributes to over a decade of records collected by the community along Victoria’s coastline.

The Great Victorian Fish Count has been running for 20 years, led by the Victorian National Parks Association in partnership with Museums Victoria, Parks Victoria, Coastcare Victoria, RedMap, local dive operators and local community groups.

BYO snorkel gear or hire from Bayplay.

We ask snorkellers helping with the count to be confident in the water with some snorkeling experience. If inexperienced you don't have to miss out Bayplay can show you our amazing marine life on our Snorkel with Sea Dragon Experience.

We hope to have you visit Bayplay soon for The Great Victorian Fishcount
